(I)DML exciter products

(I)Exciter products

HiWave offers combined haptic touch and audio exciters for touch panels and screens in industrial, home automation, automotive and consumer electronic products. Applications include pad computers, hand-held and integrated displays and controllers. When used with HiWave driver modules, a pair of HIHX14C exciters disperses bending waves evenly across the surface of touch panels so that users experience the effect of depressing mechanical keys when touching the panel surface. The simulated mechanical movement enhances the human interface enabling faster and more accurate keystrokes.

The same transducers simultaneously convert the touch screens into flat panel loudspeakers with nominally flat response from 200Hz to 15kHz. This eliminates additional loudspeakers and amplifiers, enabling more compact products with fewer components to be designed. It also reduces bill-of-materials and manufacturing costs.

The exciters are designed for use with touch screens up to 19” and are available in 1W or 2W (RMS) versions with nominal drive impedances of 4, 8, 16, or 32 Ohms. Each consists of a 14mm diameter voice coil mounted on plastic suspension. Overall height is just 11mm.

(II)Control Electronics products

HiWave offers HIHCM-001, a 15mm x 10mm control module that, in combination with two moving coil transducers, adds haptic touch to flat panels whilst simultaneously turning the panel into a loudspeaker. The module is designed primarily for applications in white goods, security systems, home automation and industrial control.

The haptic effect makes a touch panel feel like a mechanical keypad or keyboard. The HIHCM-001 module controls the transducers, which generate bending waves across the surface of the panel, creating the sensation of pressing a mechanical key when a user touches it. The touch panel also acts as a flat-panel speaker, using the same drive module and transducers. The speaker can be used to provide additional confirmation of a positive touch on the panel audible confirmation of other circuit functions being activated, voice feed prompts, advertising messages, or entertainment.

The use of two transducers results in even dispersion of signal strength across the whole touch panel.

HiWave is developing additional drive modules for displays, multi-touch feedback and alternative transducer types. Higher power versions for large displays are also planned.
